Bert Stern wanted more than a historically iconic image of the movie star: “ What I wanted from Marilyn Monroe was the nudes because I couldn’t think of anything to put on her.”

Although Marilyn Monroe was able to transform herself into character for the "Last Sitting" shoot with Bert Stern, there is an air of desperation about these photos as well, a tragic foreshadowing of her death a mere six weeks later.
