Afshin Shahidi is an Iranian-born American photographer and filmmaker. He has worked on a variety of projects, ranging from films and documentaries to music videos and commercials. Early in his career, Shahidi worked as a camera assistant on Prince's music video sets in Minnesota. Their professional collaboration grew into a friendship even as they continued their working relationship.
Shahidi first met Prince in 1993 at Paisley Park on a music video shoot and eventually became his cinematographer and still photographer, capturing Prince in concert and at play, in highly styled settings and in candid situations. Shahidi was the photographer for the musician's legendary 3121 parties in Los Angeles as well as on the road with Prince all over the world.
His work has been featured on the covers of several albums including Prince - 3121, Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas, and Prince & the New Power Generation One Nite Alone...Live!. In 2017 he published a book of his photographs of Prince titled Prince: A Private View, many of which had never been seen by the public.
A selection of photographs from Shahidi's book are featured below and are available now in several sizes as signed, limited edition, fine art photographs. If you would like to purchase a photograph that is not shown here, please contact us for more details!
