Aztec Gold, 1938
By Alberto Vargas
About the image
Alberto Vargas has always been associated with the cutting edge giants who adored the American woman. Many, however, do not realize the amount of work he produced in Hollywood in the 1930s. In addition to portraits he produced of film stars he painted some wonderfully atmospheric set designs; this one, Aztec Gold, was created in 1938 for a Gold Diggers film set.
This watercolor is in brilliant shape and is quite large. This work was in Vargas' personal collection when he died in 1982. It is now being offered from the estate of his nephew, Max Vargas. A rare item and beautiful painting from the artist's personal collection.
