Astrid Kirchherr

Astrid Krichherr is known for her captivating photography, most notably her infamous shots of the Beatles. Astrid was born on May 20th, 1938 in Hamburg. She studied photography at the Meisterschule für Mode, Textil, Graphik und Werbung from 1957 until 1960. Soon after, Astrid Kirchherr became friends with the Beatles at the time when the band included Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe. After falling in love with Astrid, Stuart left the group to follow his dream of becoming an artist.
Astrid was a freelance photographer for many years and in 1968 she took the photograph for the cover of Wonderwall Music by George Harrison. Later on, the movie, Backbeat (England 1994), created further interest in Astrid Kirchherr’s photography. To this date, her art has been shown all over the world and was featured in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
