About the image
Steve looks askance with hard-pressed lips, his beige cowboy hat shading his eyes from view, on-set of the 1979 film Tom Horn. The jury is still out on whether the real-life Tom Horn, the protagonist Steve embodies in the movie, really murdered the boy, Willie Nickell. After Steve and Barbara visited Tom Horn's gravesite in Boulder, Colorodo, Barbara was convinced he did. She maintains to this day that she feels his presence reappearing every so often. Steve was less-inclined to believe this, and played Tom with a degree of sympathy.
