About the image

The Grateful Dead hang out on the front steps of their house at 710 Ashbury Street in San Francisco's Haight district. This was Wolman's first ever shoot for Rolling Stone magazine, just after the band had been busted on marijuana charges.

"Jann wanted a group shot, but I couldn't get them to pose," Wolman says. "After the press conference, they were just high on the moment, just totally wired. So they came out and started foolin' around on the steps of their house."

Release Notes:
For most of his images, Baron Wolman offered signed limited edition photographs in the several sizes listed below. His black and white photographs were printed as silver gelatins, and his color photographs were C-prints. These were typically printed to order in New Mexico and then numbered, titled, and signed by him.

8"  x 10" Sheet Size, as signed, open editions
11" x 14" Sheet Size, as signed, limited editions of 150
16" x 20" Sheet Size, as signed, limited editions of 150
20" x 24" Sheet Size, as signed, limited editions of 75

Collector's Notes:
Although he offered several sizes for each photograph, Baron's work was most often produced in the 11" x 14" and 16" x 20" sheet sizes.

When he passed, Baron Wolman left behind an archive of signed photographs that we are now offering in very limited supply for collectors.
