About the image
Steve McQueen entered and won his first road race in the Spring of 1959 driving a 1600 Super Porsche.  He returned later that year driving his much faster Lotus Le Mans Mark XI but blew his engine during the race, coming in fourth place. This image was used as the cover of the excellent collection of Barry Feinstein's photographs of his friend called Unseen McQueen (Reel Art Press 2013).
