About the image
Bob Gruen met up with The Allman Brothers at their hotel in Greenwich Village before their last gig at the Fillmore East in New York City. It was the final show at the legendary concert hall, the event was invite only and featured The Allman Brothers and The J Geils Band. Their album At Fillmore East was released a few days later on July 1, 1971.

Duane acquired a 1950 Gibson Les Paul Standard "Tobacco Burst" guitar that weekend, later called "Hot Lanta", which is what he appears to be playing in this shot.
