Norma Jean, 1946
By Bruno Bernard
About the image
A portrait of 19-year-old Norma Jean Mortenson, professionally known as Marilyn Monroe, circa 1946. This is from "The Discovery Series", Bernard of Hollywood's first sitting with the quintessential American sex symbol. Bernard gave this photo, along with several other girl-next-door images of Marilyn to Ben Lyons, head of the 20th Century Fox talent department. These images got Norma Jean her first studio screen test and motion picture contract.
