Eric Idle, Bridgetown, Barbados, 1977 (My Sweet Lord)

About the image
This shot was taken when Eric and I were both staying in a mutual friend’s beach house. We took a walk along the Bridgetown Quay where the big ships were. As we had just completed work on the Christmas episode of his series Rutland Weekend Television, in which George Harrison starred as a pirate.
George had written “My Sweet Lord” years before, so Eric wanted me to take this picture for him. George subsequently used it in his autobiography, I, Me, Mine, written in the early 1980s. Eric went on to write his cult film ‘The Rutles’, in which George played a reporter and Ricky Fataar played George. I think Eric pinched that Rolling Stones T-shirt from Ronnie.
