About the image
Shelley Duvall came into my life around 1976 and invited me to Palm Springs during the making of 3 Women, directed by Robert Altman. I went on set with her every day. There was a lot of hanging around between takes so I asked her to pose for me in an empty swimming pool that was being used as one of the sets. It had murals painted all over its walls. I have many black and white portraits from this session, but this filtered one is the most striking. She had such great bone structure, it was hard to take a bad picture.
