The Who's Next Album Cover Session Contact Sheet captures the album cover session as they work out exactly how they will pose for the final version. Since the visual reference to Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey was so obvious, they started by approaching the monolith like the apes in that film. Eventually Pete Townsend pissed on the side, and that sparked the vision for the cover. The others couldn't go on cue, so Ethan splashed water on the sides and got his shot.
