Abbey Road Album Cover Outtake (AB2), London, 1969

Photograph
By Iain Macmillan
About the image
The Beatles ' super-iconic 'Abbey Road  album cover is arguably the most often imitated photograph in history.  This image is one of the five outtakes that were shot that same day, it is the first in the sequence of attempts at getting the perfect cover shot.

Note that Paul is wearing sandals in this shot!

'I remember we hired a policeman to hold up traffic while I was up on the ladder taking the pictures. The whole idea, I must say, was Paul McCartney's. A few days before the shoot, he drew a sketch of how he imagined the cover, which we executed almost exactly that day.
