South African cleric and activist Desmond Tutu in Soweto, an urban area of the city of Johannesburg in Gauteng, South Africa where both he and Nelson Mandela had lived. This was taken in 1977, a year after the Soweto Riots, the beginning of a massive uprising against apartheid.
