This shot was taken before a Barack Obama rally at John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia on August 21, 2008. French photographer Jean-Robert Dantou's interest in the Obama campaign was focused on the paradox between enormous political rallies, in which everything is tightly controlled, and the more-minimal, grass roots type of rallies like the one featured here, where organizers hope "to create an impression of proximity between candidate and citizen."
