Marshall had traveled the American South covering the Civil Rights Movement in the early sixties, and upon returning to Northern California, and witnessing a similar cultural upheaval, he continued to capture poignant images that reflected the immense transition underway. This image of a well-appointed couple watching an Anti-Vietnam War protest over a fence captures the uncertainty that many people felt about opposing the status quo.
