Al Kooper, having recently left Blood, Sweat, and Tears, was working in LA with Columbia Records as an A&R man. He was looking for a project so he called up Michael Bloomfield to invite him to a jam session to see what they could come up with. On May 28, 1968 Bloomfield met up with Kooper along with Eddie Hoh, the drummer from The Mamas & the Papas, and Electric Flag's bass player, Harvey Brooks. Barry Goldberg sat in on piano. Over the course of six hours, they recorded five impressive tunes and then retired for the night.
In the morning, Bloomfield was nowhere to be seen. He later told Kooper that he couldn't sleep and had decided to go home to Mill Valley.
