About the image

"I was assigned by a magazine to do a cover story on Levon Helm. The shoot was scheduled to take place backstage before his concert at the Lone Star Cafe. Bob Dylan had been using my piano at the photo studio that day. I told him I was leaving to do this shoot and he asked if he could come along. I said no, because [I knew] if he came with me,  they'd start chatting and Levon wouldn't give me the attention I'd need. Bob said he wouldn't talk with Levon till I was done. I agreed, under the conditions that he help carry my equipment and do the light readings, in addition to not talking to Levon while I was shooting. Of course, when I showed up with Bob, Levon only wanted to hang out with him. Bob explained he was there to take light readings, then he picked up a guitar that was sitting in the dressing room and jumped into the frame." -- Lynn Goldsmith, Rock 'n' Roll Stories (2103)
