A month or so before this leg of the Ziggy Stardust tour restarted, Bowie had traveled to Japan and met with his favored designer Kansai Yamamoto (who made nearly all the Ziggy Stardust costumes). During his visit he also received tips on applying traditional Kabuki makeup by Kabuki star Tomasa Boru.
