About the image

"I rented a funky hotel room in down LA for this shoot with Merle. The paradox was that we all arrived at the session in a limousine. In this shot, Merle was showing me, with a wry sense of humor, the one thing he learnt in prison – how to peel an apple in one piece." -- Norman Seeff
