Ob La Di - Paul McCartney, Rishikesh, India, 1968
By Paul Saltzman
About the image
A portrait of Paul McCartney as he looks downwards while holding his guitar. He is wearing all-white traditional Indian clothing and sitting amongst potted plants on the steps to the Beatles bungalow. According to Paul Saltzman, Paul is looking at a fragment of paper that he had scribbled "Ob-La-Di", Ob-La-Da" on. Paul and John sang the phrase and played it many times that day, working with the words until they got the melody right.
