Rehearsal in Ireland Suite - Keith in Voodoo Lounge, 1993
By Ronnie Wood
About the image
This dual portrait shows Keith Richards playing and laughing in the so-called Voodoo Lounge, the name Keith gave to the temporary quarters he occupied during his stay at Ronnie's place. (The band liked the name so much it became the title of the album and accompanying tour.)
As a result of the candid nature, this portrait seems very informal and relaxed. But the simple nature of the composition belies the complexity of the medium used in creating this kind of print. Aquatint, a type of etching made with acids, is very difficult to control. This series is not only an unconventional look at the Stones, but an accomplishment for Ronnie as an artist.
