About the image

Designed for Big Brother and the Holding Company appearances at the Avalon Ballroom on June 24th & 25th, 1966, this poster, showing the familiar "Zig Zag Rolling Papers" man became an instant icon among fans due to the overt reference to smoking marijuana.

Mouse and Kelley decided to risk using this well known brand without first asking permission and it turned out to be mutually beneficial for both parties, everyone loved the design, and it functioned as a free ad campaign.
