Pink Floyd, Atom Heart Mother 40th Anniversary, Why A Cow, 2012
By Storm Thorgerson
About the image
This design was borne of a desire to recreate the legendary Atom Heart Mother album cover, for the 40th anniversary of its release. It appears in the same spot in the same field that Storm shot the original version.
"To celebrate the 40th anniversary of a real cow I thought I'd make one of wire - Why A Cow - which we duly made and took back to the original location and re-shot it. Since wire frames are so important in CSG it seemed only appropriate to make the sculpture of our new cow out of wire, not flesh and blood, or even polystyrene. We had a little trouble finding the location because it had grown in 40 years. The grass was longer and the hedges shorter, and it had one less tree. Such is the march of entropy."
