A smiling Hunter S. Thompson with his trademark cigarette holder while on the island of Cozumel, Mexico, circa 1974. The legendary journalist was doing research for his book, The Great Shark Hunt, which was eventually released in 1979. These photographs appeared in the November 1974 edition of Playboy magazine.
