Study of a Young Blonde on a Swing, c. 1940s

This lovely image of a cheerful blonde wearing a tropical themed bikini/sarong combo on a swing has the classic appearance of the 1940s Pin Up.  

Although this was not published, the high degree of completion of this piece (almost completely colored) implies that it was a work in full progress, and is likely to have been created in the later mid-1940s when Vargas' relationship with Esquire was coming to an end and he began to pursue independent publishing interests.

Collector's Notes:

This is a pencil/colored pencil drawing that was not published, but is a beautiful example of the classic 1940s Pin Up.
It bears a hand-written copyright notice by the Estate of Alberto Vargas in ink, on the reverse side.
