About the image

Les Paul is one of a handful of artists with a permanent exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Here, he poses with his collection of world-class, signature guitars in the bedroom of his Mahwah, New Jersey home.

"I photographed him at his home in Mahwah, NJ for a magazine cover story. We ended up shooting in his actual bedroom, which was strewn with Gibson guitars. When I asked Les where he sleeps, he said "Shit man, I sleep down the hall in the guestroom."

I took a lot of different shots of Les that day, but I think this one is the most iconic." -- Bill Bernstein
