David Bowie, Scary Monsters - Pierrot, 1980
By Brian Duffy
About the image
An outtake from the session that produced the cover artwork for David Bowie's 1980 album, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps). It features Bowie in a Pierrot costume that he first wore in the "Ashes to Ashes" video. The bleached-out look was supposed "to symbolize the discarding of Bowie's old personae," as the chameleon-like musician had moved away from the character he created for the "Berlin Trilogy."
