Guitarist Robbie Robertson, poets Michael McClure and Allen Ginsberg, and Bob Dylan gather outside City Lights Bookstore on December 5, 1965. At the time, photographer Dale Smith was a creative writing student of McClure's at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.
