This photograph was taken backstage while the Rolling Stones prepared for their performance at the legendary Madison Square Garden. It was November 27, 1969, the evening of Jimi's 26th birthday and the first of a 2-night run in New York City.
Most people wonder when they see this picture, why Jimi was not invited to play either before the Stones came on or along with them - surely that would have been a historic event! Clearly the reason is Mick Jagger knew better than to let even one ounce of the spotlight go astray!
Hendrix joined The Stones after the show at a private party where they continued Jimi’s birthday celebrations.
