About the image

This shot of Jimi Hendrix, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding was taken during Gered Mankowitz's second session with the band at his Mason's Yard Studio in 1967. Originally a black & white portrait, this colorized version is the result of Gered experimenting with a variety of printing techniques for an exhibition. The edition is a photographic print made from the original one-off that was produced on metal.

"The guy's had decided to perm their hair to look more like Jimi and therefore made the first session out of date in the space of a few weeks!" - Gered Mankowitz
