Harry Benson captured superstars Tina Turner and Janis Joplin performing together—the only time they ever did so—at Madison Square Garden in New York City, on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, 1969.
Ike and Tina Turner were opening for The Rolling Stones that evening, and at some point during their performance Tina noticed Janis in the audience and invited her onstage to sing a number with them, reportedly "Land of 1000 Dances." Coincidentally, this is the same evening that Jimi Hendrix dropped in backstage before the show to say hello—it was his 27th birthday. What a night!
