Led Zeppelin by a Window, San Francisco, 1969

About the image
Led Zeppelin were in San Francisco on their first American tour, opening for Country Joe and The Fish at the Fillmore West for four nights in early 1969. "I knew about the Yardbirds,"... "I knew nothing about this new band with Jimmy Page. But they booked a session because they wanted some 8-by-10 glossies, as they used to say in the trade."
"I didn't give them much direction," he says. "These guys were on the road and really didn't want to be there. I had 40 minutes, so I took individual portraits and a group shot. They were looking down at the parking lot of an abandoned grocery store. This was a neighborhood full of buildings that were later torn down. There were junk shops and places full of windows and banisters, great for shooting photos."
