Keith Richards in Barn Door, CT, 1977
By Ken Regan
About the image
Keith Richards bears a serious and sober expression in this photograph captured at his home in Connecticut in September, 1977. The year had begun with a now-infamous drug bust in Toronto which kept him in Canada until April, when he was allowed back into the US for drug treatment. That entire year he dealt with not only his addiction but with the threat of serious criminal charges and penalties. Luckily charges were later reduced, reportedly due to the judge’s blind daughter speaking up for his character as Keith had made sure she was safe at an earlier Stones concert. He was given a suspended sentence and played a free concert for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
