About the image
The front cover of Raw Power, the iconic punk album by Iggy Pop and The Stooges. The album's production has become legendary for the loud volume at which it was mastered and how the guitars are mixed much louder than anything else. It has, in fact, become a yardstick against which other albums are compared; Kurt Cobain is one musician who called it his favorite record of all-time.

Mick Rock photographed Iggy Pop and the Stooges at Kings Cross on July 15, 1972, capturing the image that would later be used on the front cover of Raw Power. The night before, he was at the same venue photographing Lou Reed's iconic performance that produced the image used on the front cover of Reed's Transformer album.
