T Rex's flamboyant guitarist Marc Bolan performing at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1973. Neal Preston was there on assignment for Circus Magazine with his roommate journalist Cameron Crowe. The two had interviewed Bolan the night before at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and describes him (at the time) as "personable and sweet and delicate -- like he looks."
