Steve McQueen, Morning Paper II, at Home in Santa Paula, 1978 (With Stool)
By Barbara McQueen
About the image
Steve sits in his favorite wicker chair reading the newspaper outside the couple’s Santa Paula home. Steve and Barbara moved to Santa Paula in ’78 because of Steve’s endearment with the small town of 20,000. The place was classically American, the residents treated Steve like anybody else and his favorite airport was located there. While the pair house hunted, they lived in the airport hangar for six months. The morning view was fantastic but poor Barbara kept tripping over Steve’s bikes and airplane wings!
