South African cleric Desmond Tutu and South African President F. W. de Klerk during their historic talks that eventually ended apartheid, circa 1989. De Klerk and Nelson Mandela were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for their mutual participation in ending the racial segregation in their home country.
